I am staying in Fengyuan 豐原

To start it off, we had transfers today!! I am staying in Fengyuan 豐原and Elder Hatch is headed down to Tainan. My new comp is Elder Spach, from Logan!! He is super awesome already and he sounds like He is from Taiwan when he speaks Chinese haha.  This week was great, but very cold and rainy!! I love the work and couldn't be more happy to be here in DongFong!!!

This week was full of miracles!! Starting off with a lady we met on Tuesday, named Sister Liu, she is super awesome! We were walking down the street contacting and started walking into a 7-11 as a lady was walking out. We started to talk to her and she said she was in a hurry but could meet another day.  So we got her phone number and ended up meeting with her twice this last week and are meeting again tomorrow! She is awesome, she loves what we have been teaching and is always willing to read the Book of Mormon and Pray, she has a baptismal goal for the 25th of March!  The coolest part is we only met her like a week ago and she can already see the Gospel changing her life.

Also we have another super cool investigator who on average sleeps 21 hours a day! First of all that's not healthy, and second of all it was a miracle we found him in the little time he wasn't sleeping haha But he is doing really good and came to church this week.  We had a lesson with him a couple days ago at 7pm and knocking on the door woke him up from the previous nights sleep.  It's so crazy!!

We ran into a guy this week and starting sharing with him.  As We were talking, I asked him if he believed in God. His response: He picked up the can of beer sitting on the table and said "No, but I believe in Beer." Just a little sample of what happens contacting in Taiwan!

This week I was reading about the Anti-Nephi-Lehies and the Faith they showed. They had complete faith in the Lord.  And they acted upon it as well.  They gave up their lives as an act of faith and completely trusted the Lord to know where they were going after this life! I am grateful for this chance to show the Lord i have faith in him! And I cannot wait to see the miracles that come because of it!

Thank you all for the love and support!

Great Week in Fengyuan!

Hello Everyone!! Another great week here in Fengyuan!! It has been absolutely freezing this week.. I had no idea Taiwan could get this cold... lol.  Probably not that cold compared to Utah though.  But we continued to work hard this week and met two awesome people this week and set baptismal dates for them at the beginning of March.  One is an 18 year old kid who got in a super bad accident when he was younger and has scars all over his body.  He struggles with being an outcast because of it.  But as we share the gospel more with him, he is starting to understand he has a lot of purpose to life.  It is cool to see him and his desire learn.

The other is dude in his 30s who is super cool and has a big desire to learn more.  Both of them are Buddhist and have no idea about Christ and almost all things we teach them they have never heard.  It is super crazy to see the difference in societies and people, and how much more peaceful and happy people become when they recognize the truth.

Me and Elder Jones a super cool Elder from Davis, went on exchanges this week.  We gave a man a chapel tour this week and it was super spiritual.  The Church is a place of peace and comfort, you can truly feel the love of God there!

I got some super cool news today, Gina from Lingya got baptized yesterday!! She is super awesome and her desire to follow Christ is so big.

This week I have been studying from a book about the life of Joseph Smith.  The amount of trial and tribulation that man went through is more than I had ever thought.  No matter how much He went through, He kept pushing through and did all He could to push the work forward as best He could. He truly saw Heavenly Father and His son Jesus Christ.  And did as much as He could to share it with everybody. "Next to Jesus Christ, He has done more for mankind than any other man on Earth." -Brigham Young

Love you all! Have a great week!

Chinese New Years and Fire Crackers

It's been a good week here in Fengyuan! Finished Chinese New Years and I can say I have never eaten so much weird food and fish in my whole life, lol.  But I made it through without gaining weight!! On Tuesday we went to the Bishop's house to eat, thinking it would be a nice little bike ride to his house turned out to be him picking us up and driving us 45 minutes through the jungle to a little village on the other side of the mountains. It was by far the prettiest part of Taiwan I have ever seen.  He drove us up with the bikes in the back of his car and then we road home and "we enjoyed the view" so I've got some good pictures of flying down a jungle mountain.

On Wednesday we went to a single adults activity for lunch and had this huge pot of I have no idea what to eat. Taiwanese people love soups with the most random stuff in it.  I thought in it were dumplings so I was kinda pumped, but after one bite I quickly realized it was a huge fish ball, which were really gross, so I choked down one of them and then snuck the other one I had into my companions bowl.  hahaha So then he took it and as this member next to him wasn't looking tossed it in to his bowl and we ended up getting off the hook. hahah sometimes you got to do it so you don't throw up😅

On Friday we had a pretty cool experience.  We hadn't been having too much success this week and so we went tracting, going door to door through this ghetto little ally we found.  We said a prayer and really felt like someone was here we needed to talk to.  As we started going, we got the door slammed in our face like the first 8 or 9 houses but just kept going.  We ended up knocking on this mid-30s, single, ladies door.  As we talked to her at the door we explained we were missionaries for our church and had a special message about the questions of the soul "Where did we come from?", "What is life's purpose?", and "where are we going after this life?" She ended up letting us in and we shared the whole plan of salvation and she loved it.  We told her about the Book of Mormon and how the only way to know this is true, is through reading this book and praying.  Super cool and spiritual experience.  The Plan of Salvation truly is familiar to everyone, because they excepted it before coming to earth!! The spirit helps the plan to ring a bell.
I have began to realize this work isn't about the numbers, It is for the love of the Lord and your personal desire and efforts to serve him.  I was reading in Mosiah and Alma this week and the Sons of Mosiah said "They cannot bare to see the children of God not have the Gospel or these blessings."  This was a powerful example to me  of what missionary work is all about.  It is serving everyone and helping them to come to the knowledge of their loving Heavenly Father and Savior!

So for Chinese New Year, you have never hear the end of Fireworks and Firecrackers! Pretty cool but kinda of sketchy cause they are so loud and you have no idea where they are coming from hahah LOTS of Buddhist traditions going on as well!

Love you all! Have a great week!

Mikey's Bishop lives in this Beautiful Mountain Village!! He still has not gotten "His" bike from his last area, so he is riding an old missionary bike. Lots of their area is in the mountains, lots of tough biking, So, he's is in great shape!!
